NBCPhiladelphia.com is reporting on a crash Saturday afternoon in South Philadelphia that left one man dead.

The accident occurred on I-95 near the Walt Whitman Bridge, specifically, at the Exit 19 ramp near Oregon Avenue. The time was approximately 2:30 PM.

Authorities say a tractor-trailer rig lost its load of watermelons, the load falling on the highway, that debris then causing the driver of a Honda to lose control. The Honda went off the roadway and into a guardrail.

The passenger in the Honda, Thanh Tam Nguyen, had to be extricated from the wrecked vehicle. He was received by Jefferson Hospital where he was later declared deceased. No word yet on the condition of the Honda’s driver or the condition of the semi-truck driver.

The accident continues to be investigated.
