WPVI is reporting on a traffic accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian. It is not known at this time if the pedestrian was walking on the freeway or possibly a person who got out of their car after the accident.

Pennsylvania State Police responded to a crash on eastbound I-676, just east of Broad Street. The time was approximately 4:45 AM Sunday morning.

Upon arriving at the scene, troopers found two vehicles that had both suffered damage. The first was a Saab with front end damage, the second was a Chevy Tahoe with rear damage. The two vehicles were blocking the left hand lane of travel and the right lane, respectively. They also found a badly injured man lying in the roadway who was later identified as Phillip West.

After transporting the pedestrian to Hahnemann Hospital, West was pronounced deceased shortly after being received.

The driver of the Saab, Christopher Nevatt, 24, of Warminster, was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries. Also taken to the same medical facility was Shamika Trice, 29, of Philadelphia, the driver of the Tahoe. She was moderately injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
