NBCPhiladelphia.com is reporting on a violent crash that happened last week that left one man dead and his wife seriously injured.

The accident occurred in the 4000 block of Richlieu Road in Bensalem. The time was approximately 6:45 PM. The date was April 28th.

Toronto resident Shane Learn, 48, was arrested yesterday for the accident and charged with several counts, specifically, homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI.

Authorities say Learn was proceeding northbound along the 4000 block of Richlieu Road that evening when he veered across his travel lane and collided with a guardrail. The truck then shot across the northbound lane, striking a Lyft ride-share vehicle.

Neil Weiner, 57, a resident of Holland, Pennsylvania, was a passenger in that ride share vehicle. He later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash. Weiner’s wife was also gravely hurt and at this time continues to be hospitalized.The Lyft driver received minor injuries.

Bensalem Township Police are continuing their investigation of the accident. But Learn failed two field sobriety tests and registered a .162 percent blood alcohol concentration after taking a breath test, according to the affidavit filed by the police.

In addition, Learn allegedly told law enforcement personnel that he drank two beers and a double Jameson shot before driving. The police report quoted Learn as saying the accident was his fault.
